Family Life Theatre was formed as a program of the Family Counseling Centre, currently Algoma Family Services, in 1982.  Under the scope of “educational theatre” FLT provided the means for their parent agency to fill the required education component of their mandate.  We supported their vision for the future to enhance the well being and quality of life for children, adults and families throughout the Algoma District.

Since 1982, Family Life Theatre has given over 1800 performances of 29 different plays to in excess of 175, 000 people across Ontario.  The topics of our dramas range from substance abuse, wife abuse, suicide, HIV/AIDS, sexual abuse, fetal alcohol effects, Alzheimer Disease, elder abuse, incest, gambling, addictions, alcohol liability, palliative care, eating disorders and bullying.  Venues for these performances include school gyms, churches, boardrooms, prisons, on stages and even outdoors.

Throughout our development, we have partnered with many community organizations.  Such partnerships have allowed us to continue to disseminate our messages to Sault Ste. Marie and many other communities throughout Ontario.  Current partnerships include the Ontario Trillium Foundation, HRDC and FedNor, which allow us to continue to develop several major projects and increase our effectiveness in helping Canadians through educational theatre.
